Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRTTechnology plays a major role in the tire industry.  Over the years, technological innovations related to tires have provided drivers with better traction, reduced rolling resistance, improved cornering, better gas mileage, and much more.  Improved tire technology has also made it easier and safer to drive on wet roads and in snow, slush, and other difficult winter driving conditions.

Many drivers may wonder what is coming next.  The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, which took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, in early November, 2010, provided an excellent opportunity to explore the latest developments and get a glimpse of what is on the technological horizon.

Customers who drive SUVs and light trucks that are searching for a tire designed to handle the worst of winter conditions may appreciate Goodyear’s Ultra Grip Ice WRT.  It “contains Goodyear’s Winter Reactive Technology, a combination of features ‘that work together to help provide a balance of starting, stopping and turning action in a variety of weather conditions, such as snow, ice, slush, wet and dry,’ say Goodyear officials.”

According to Modern Tire Dealer, a Continental tire was named Best New Product at the SEMA show.  The tire, the Continental ProContact with EcoPlus Technology, is a passenger tire.  It “was recognized ‘for its innovative low-rolling resistance and fuel-saving features,’ according to Continental Tire the Americas LLC officials.”  The article noted that one of the tire’s main components +Saline “‘is an additive that works to enhance the tire’s grip on slippery roads, drastically reducing stopping distances.’”  In addition to “‘[enhancing] the driving experience for a long tire life when conditions are normal,’” the tire offers ‘“excellent wet braking on slippery roads.’”

At the Global Tire Expo-Powered by TIA booth at the SEMA show, Hankook offered a preview of what is coming up next.  Modern Tire Dealer described the Enfren Eco as “an environmentally friendly product that will hit the market in late 2011.”  The Enfren Eco is touted as being designed for “high performance ‘eco driving.’”  Another Hankook tire, also slated for release later in 2011, “is a premium, all-season performance tire … designed for vans, SUVs and light trucks.”  This tire, named the Dynapro HT, is also designed to be eco-friendly.  Another Hankook tire, the Optimo H426, is “an all-season grand touring performance tire that will be available during the second quarter of 2011.”  Features include low rolling resistance, minimized vibration, improved driving on wet roads, and reduced noise.

Falken Tire has a new product, the Azenis PT-722, which will be available in March, 2011:

“Azenis PT-722is Falken’s first ultra high performance, all-season tire, with a deep tread depth and long lateral groove designed for anti-hydroplaning and stability in the wet. The asymmetric tread pattern provides tremendous comfort while Falken’s Rotation Wear Indicators regularly inform drivers of proper rotation timing, maximizing wear performance for better mileage and a longer life. This Azenis UHP line will be available in March of 2011.”

As technology continues to evolve, new tires emerge to improve driving conditions in a variety of ways.  For people seeking ways to enhance their driving experiences, new tire technology can make a tremendous difference.  At Dunn Tire, we are committed to offering the latest and most innovative tires on the market.
